One Calgary woman and her family are a lot richer thanks to a Lightning Lotto win.
Ge Ann Bareng won $1,360,265 on the instant win jackpot.
She purchased her ticket from the Save-On-Foods at 70-3915 51 Street N.W. in Calgary.
According to a news release from Western Canada Lotto Corporation, she won her prize by selecting five numbers in the July 16 Lightning Lotto draw: 7, 26, 28, 43, 45.
“I bought [the ticket] while I was out shopping with my kids,” explains Bareng.
She and her family had just recently moved to Calgary from Montreal. She says she was looking to furnish a new apartment but will now be looking at buying a house.
“When we looked at the numbers, we couldn’t believe how many zeroes we saw,” Bareng laughed. “It took us three days to figure it out.”
Bareng says her family drove across the country toward their new home and stopped at every gas station on the way into Calgary to buy a lottery ticket.
“We were trying to change our lives with a move to Alberta, and here we are with a life-changing win after not even two full weeks in Calgary.”
The family is looking forward to a fresh start in Alberta for their children, “We now have the funds to send them to university in the future,” Bareng added. “I knew I made the right choice to move to Calgary, but now we can reset our lives here."
Bareng says she plans to pay off their debt, buy a car, and save the rest for their kids' education.
