One person's trash is another person's treasure.
The Town of Strathmore says they are offering a heavy item garbage pickup in just a few weeks.
Items like couches, tables, stoves, and lawnmowers are accepted. However, items like propane tanks and electronics will not be taken.
According to the town, only residents who pay a garbage removal fee are eligible for the program.
"The Heavy Item Garbage program, or HIG, is an opportunity for residents to place out waste items that aren't suitable for your black cart for collection," wrote the town in a Facebook post.
Here's what you need to know:
- Pick up your HIG labels from the Strathmore Municipal Building or the Strathmore Municipal Library the week before the program starts.
- Make sure waste items are suitable for collection.
- Place your items at your usual waste collection spot the week before HIG pickup for Trash to Treasure week.
- Make sure items have visible HIG labels by 7 a.m. on the Monday of HIG pickup week.
Here's what you can't do:
- Leave more than fiveĀ items per collection for pickup.
- Put HIG items between objects such as carts and vehicles.
- Obstruct the street, sidewalk, or alley.
- Place items heavier than 154 pounds.
- Place items longer than 1/24m/4ft, excluding furniture.
The next pickup week will run from Sept. 16-20.
