All classes have officially begun in Strathmore.
Although Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools began class last Wednesday (Aug. 28), Golden Hills School Division started Tuesday Sept. 3 following the Labour Day long weekend.
Residents are being advised to keep an eye out for school zones, which display a yellow pentagon that shows two people walking on it. When school zones are in effect, speeding fines are doubled in those areas.
The RCMP has also provided safety tips for students, parents, and drivers with the return of school. These tips include looking both ways before crossing the street, wearing bright-coloured clothing, and never running after a school bus.
“September is a busy time for all, as students and parents get back into their usual routines. Giving ourselves a little more time for our morning and afternoon commutes can make for a safer commute for all,” said Sergeant Darrin Turnbull with Alberta RCMP Traffic.
School zones are typically in effect during the following hours, unless posted otherwise:
- 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Golden Hills School Division includes Colony Education, Crowther Memorial Junior High School, École Brentwood Elementary, George Freeman School, Golden Hills Learning Academy, Strathmore High School, Strathmore StoreFront School, Trinity Christian Academy, Westmount School, and Wheatland Elementary.
