Wednesday (Aug. 4) marked the return of Strathmore Town Council after their last meeting on July 17.

During the meeting, they discussed their quarterly financial report, cemetery bylaw amendments, and the Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) Grant Program results.

According to their financial report for the second quarter of 2024, the overall budget is on target, with a forecasted surplus of $133,000 over budget. According to the town, this forecast reflects the impact of the Calgary water main break.

With 70 capital projects planned this year, the forecasted costs will be around $8.71 million, as opposed to the $8.89 million budget. However, the town retains an outstanding debt of $15.05 million as of late June.

Some sectors are expected to be over budget, including General Revenue and Infrastructure, Operations, and Development Services. However, sectors such as Administration are under budget due to three staff vacancies.

To date, $3.086 million of the $8.89 million budget has been spent.

The town also discussed the recipients of the FCSS Grant Program, which included:

  • $2,540 to Health Interagency.
  • $15,000 to Golden Hills School Division.
  • $3,500 to True North.

Five applications were sent in, with two deemed ineligible. Funds for the grants were provided by FCSS and the United Way.

The council meeting ended with a letter from the Vault Cultural Collective, thanking the town for its help in supporting the organization's Summer Drama Camp.
