Strathmore's Community Connections is bringing a free movie, resource fair, and community BBQ to Kinsmen Park on Friday (Sept. 6).

This is the first event of its kind in town, and the goal is to showcase the social service organizations that Strathmore provides.

"Sure, some of the programs provide essential support for those in need, but they also offer so much more that can benefit everyone in the community," said Scott Garnett, marketing coordinator with the town. "Many of these services focus on building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community - stuff like babysitting workshops, job training, mental health support, and fun activities for seniors."

Following the resource fair there will be a community BBQ by donation, made possible by the Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie program, Calgary Co-op, and Global Training Centre. All proceeds will go towards supporting the United Way.

To cap off the night there will be a free showing of Disney Pixar's Elemental on an inflatable screen. It's recommended that residents bring blankets and lawn chairs for the movie.

"It’s our hope that everyone enjoys eating BBQ and watching a family-friendly movie under the stars all while learning more about the opportunities available through Strathmore’s social service organizations," added Garnett.

The event is free to attend and open to all ages.

The fair starts at 5:30 p.m., BBQ at 6 p.m., and the movie is at 8 p.m.
