The second annual Fall Festival was held outside of the Strathmore Full Gospel Church over the weekend.
Despite the event celebrating the arrival of autumn, temperatures were well into the 30s on Saturday (Sept. 7) as hundreds of residents made it out to enjoy some horse rides, potato sack races, and a free BBQ.
"It's been our desire to be present in the community and let people know that they're here and welcome here," said Kyle Lomenda, a pastor at the church. "It's just our way of giving back, and it's awesome to have such a beautiful day for it."
The BBQ was provided by the local A&W, Co-op, and Sobeys, with donations being used towards the church's operating costs. There was also a bouncy castle obstacle course and several games, including a hay dive where children could pick out prizes buried under the hay.
"We just want to build relationships in our community, and if that just means being friends, giving them a hamburger and hot dog, shaking hands, playing the potato sack race or throwing axes, it's just making connections in the community," added Lomenda.
The event has grown in popularity over the last year, with Lomenda saying they expected around 600 people to attend the festival.
