Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were laid to rest during a memorial service on Monday (Sept. 9).

A special live stream of the service was held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Media, Pennsylvania, which was posted online by the Calgary Flames for fans to watch.

The two brothers were remembered as family men with big hearts.

The Gaudreau's were killed in a cycling accident on Thursday (Aug. 29) by a suspected drunk driver.

The tragedy happened the night before the two brothers were expected to be groomsmen for their sister Katie's wedding.

Johnny's wife Meredith gave a eulogy for her husband. She says she met Johnny in June of 2018.

"The second I saw him I can't explain it, but I knew I was going to marry the boy next door with the mohawk."

Meredith told the crowd she is three weeks into her pregnancy and is expecting the couple's third child.

"In less than three years of marriage, we've created a family of five."

Madeline Gaudreau, wife of Matthew says the brother's legacy will live on through the lives of everyone they've touched.

"Their kids, their wives, their parents, their siblings," says Madeline. "God really did draw up the best two boys. Linemates forever."

Johnny was a fan favourite with the Calgary Flames for almost a decade before signing with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2022.
