The third Alberto Lysy International Violin Competition concluded with an unexpected twist: no first prize was awarded.

Instead, the second prize was shared by Ukrainian violinist Georgii Moroz and German-Spanish-Malaysian violinist Elias David Moncado. Each received CHF4,000 (approximately CAD6,030).

The third prize of CHF2,000 (around CAD3,015) was awarded to Chinese violinist Meng Zou.

The Strad News reports that the competition, which concluded on October 20 in Gstaad, Switzerland drew 100 applicants and involved three rounds of judging.

In addition to his prize money, Moroz received a loan of a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume violin for four years. Moncado earned a solo recital at the 2025 Gstaad New Year Music Festival.

Moroz also won the Audience Award, which includes a recital performance at the 2025 summer concert series, ’Matinées des Jeunes Étoiles.’

Moroz, a recent graduate from Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, is now studying at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin under Antje Weithaas. His accolades include being a finalist at the 2022 International Jean Sibelius Competition and winning second prize at the 2023 Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition.

He has performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.

Moncado, a rising star in the violin world, is a scholarship holder with the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation and a laureate of the Gautier Capuçon Foundation. He was the youngest winner of the 2019 International Karol Lipiński Violin Competition, taking home ten special prizes.

In 2023, he won the International Vladimir Spivakov Competition. Moncado has performed with renowned orchestras, including the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra.

This year’s jury included esteemed musicians and educators: Adelina Oprean, Oleg Kaskiv, Pablo de Naveran, Lukas Wittermann, and Dong-Suk Kang.
