Coming up this Sunday night at 7pm, Jazz Winnipeg will be presenting the fantastic up and coming drummer Josh Bonneteau at the Fort Garry Hotel.
Bonneteau is a recent graduate of the University of Manitoba's Jazz program and is quickly making a name for himself on the jazz scene, performing with the likes of Will Bonness, Jon Gordon and Ron Paley. He has performed at such venues and events such as the Burton Cummings Theatre, the TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, and the Harvest Moon Festival.
Bonneteau graduated from the Desautels Faculty of Music this past June. He was a student of Fabio Ragnelli. Prior to his studies at the University of Manitoba, he was a student at Vincent Massey Collegiate where his Band Director, Matthew Abraham helped him find his love for playing jazz. As he says, “I transitioned to jazz though my school band program. My teacher, who was also a drummer [Abraham] kind of pushed me in that direction, and I started listening to more jazz.”
Joining Bonneteau on stage will be Nolan Gottfried on saxophone, Emmanuel Bach Carmargo on guitar, and Liam Allen on bass.
The four of them will play a mixture of standards and originals. “I'm doing about three of my originals, and then a few standards...I’m also doing Paul Motion song that I wouldn't call a standard, but it is also something I didn’t write.”
The always humble Bonneteau, is grateful to Jazz Winnipeg for hosting the event. As he says, “Zachary Rushing from Jazz Winnipeg has been so good at booking people. We are very fortune to have him as a Programs Coordinator.”
This is sure to be a great show, that highlights four great musicians who represent the next generation of jazz here in Winnipeg.
Josh Bonneteau and his quartet perform this Sunday, November 10th at the Fort Garry Hotel, for more details click here.
