It's Métis Week and the Town of Strathmore will showcase an upcoming event to showcase the Métis people living in Strathmore and the area.

The Strathmore Family and Community Support Services are hosting Teachings of the Sash event on Saturday (Nov. 16).

"Learn about Metis history, hear from speakers Amber Boyd and Pam Piche, and enjoy some traditional Metis music," wrote the town in a Facebook post.

According to the town, there will also be music from Métis fiddle player Denis Dufresne and Evan Jacobs-Davies will discuss Metis youth programs in local schools.

The Alberta government says over 127,000 Métis people call Alberta home.

The event will be hosted at the Strathmore Civic Centre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
