It was a special game for the Junior B Agra Risk Wheatland Kings on Friday (Nov. 8).
As the Kings were set to play the Three Hills Thrashers, identical twins Derrick and Shane Ford ended up facing each other on different sides of the ice.
"It had never happened before," said Derrick, who plays goalie for the Kings. "It was honestly a bit distracting before the game, but once we started playing, I don't think either of us really cared or focused on it too much."
The game ended with the Kings defeating the Thrashers in a 6-0 shutout.
"The Thrashers had one or two scoring chances, and I was able to make a save or two," added Derrick. "Shane played pretty well for a 6-0 game."
It's been a historic season for the Kings as they sit near the top of the standings with a 12-3 record throughout the year.
"We've had a pretty strong start to the season, defeating a few teams that were ahead of us in the standings. It's pretty exciting, and we just need to keep going."
The Kings also squeaked past the Carstar Okotoks Bisons on Saturday 2-1 via a shootout. The team will now head to Coaldale for a game against the Copperheads on Saturday (Nov. 16).
Puck drop is at 8 p.m.
