A free Mature Driver Refresher Course will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Senior Citizens Activity Center in Rosetown, located at 102 Centennial Drive. The course is open to Saskatchewan residents aged 55 and older and aims to help participants refresh their driving skills and boost their confidence on the road.
The session runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and continues after lunch from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, and the entire program is free of charge, thanks to sponsorship from Atlas York Insurance. Registration is required to secure a spot.
This six-hour course is strictly informational, and conducted in a positive, open-class environment. There are no examinations, and participants' driver’s licenses will not be affected. The program covers essential topics that focus on reinforcing safe driving habits and adapting to the physical changes that can come with age.
Topics Include:
- Safe Driving Practices: Review normal driving situations, including intersections, following distance, and maintaining a safe space around your vehicle.
- Hazardous Driving Conditions: Tips on handling skids, hydroplaning, head-on collisions, and other challenging driving environments.
- Traffic Guidance: Understanding road signs, pavement markings, and other traffic signals.
- Safety Devices: Proper use of seat belts, airbags, and other safety features in your vehicle.
- Health and Medication Awareness: Information on the effects of medications, vision changes, and using your eyes effectively while driving.
This course provides a valuable opportunity for mature drivers to learn new skills, refresh their knowledge of current road laws, and gain confidence behind the wheel. It's also a chance to connect with others in the community in a supportive learning environment.
