The Biggar RCMP Detachment handled 38 reported occurrences last week, addressing a range of incidents including traffic violations, thefts, and missing children safely located.
Traffic Safety Incidents:
Among the 13 traffic infractions, a notable stop involved a black GMC Sierra caught speeding on Highway 14. The 34-year-old female driver received a three-day license suspension after failing a roadside alcohol screening test. Officers also responded to a report of a blue 2021 Dodge Ram failing to yield to pedestrians at a crosswalk, emphasizing the importance of pedestrian safety.
Theft Investigations:
Two thefts were reported this week, including a white 2024 Ford F-150 from Rose Valley that drove off without paying for gas at the Perdue Co-op. In another incident, a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was stolen from a business in Biggar. Early investigations suggest the suspects may have connections to the Spiritwood area.
Disturbance at Local Gas Station:
RCMP members were called to a disturbance at the Fas Gas parking lot, but the altercation turned out to be a case of the usual local crowd causing a scene. The group dispersed before police arrived on the scene, leaving no further action required.
Missing Children Safely Found:
A potentially alarming situation arose when two 10-year-olds were reported missing. The children had decided to set off on foot towards Saskatoon after dark. Thanks to vigilant motorists on Highway 14, they were quickly located and safely returned home, averting a potentially dangerous situation.
Good Samaritan Returns Lost Wallet:
A moment of relief came when a wallet containing all its contents was turned in to the RCMP. The owner, visibly relieved, expressed deep gratitude to the good Samaritan who ensured the return of their belongings, avoiding what could have been a stressful situation.
The Biggar RCMP Detachment reminds the community to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help maintain safety and security in the area.
