Several Strathmore High School students were recognized at the first-ever Academic Achievement Awards ceremony.
The awards were presented by principal Douglas Raycroft and vice principal Agnieszka Barwacz Riou in the school's theatre on Wednesday (Nov. 13).
"Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance have truly paid off," said Barwacz Riou. "Each of you has demonstrated exceptional academic excellence by achieving the highest average on four to five core subjects."
The winner of the Grade 12 Award was Karley Clark, with Raycroft noting her dedication to balancing academic pursuits with a passion for ringette.
"She's a role model for her classmates, demonstrating that hard work and perseverance pay off," said Raycroft.
Clark was also awarded the Governor General Bronze Medal, which is presented to students who attained the highest average in their graduating class.
"I'm very happy and pretty proud of myself. It's a big accomplishment," said Clark. "I've had lots of great teachers and met lots of great friends through this school and the sports teams."
Clark graduated in 2024, with her returning to the school to receive the award. She is now in university as she studies kinesiology.
"I really like sports, so the thought of staying on track with that kind of pushed me towards the subject."
Other students who were recognized for their academic achievements was Grade 11 student Abbie Skene, and Grade 12 student Gwen Smith, for their achievements the previous year.
