Explore Cochrane and the Cochrane Chamber of Commerce are teaming up for a two-part event that’s all about supporting local businesses this holiday season.

Starting November 23rd, 30 Cochrane businesses will compete in a decorating contest, transforming their storefronts into festive winter wonderlands.

Cochranites can vote for their favourite display by scanning QR codes at participating businesses or by following Explore Cochrane and the Cochrane Chamber on social media for the voting link.

The weeklong contest leads into a Late Night Shopping and Dining Event on November 28, which, according to Callandra Caufield, Executive Director of Explore Cochrane, is all about supporting local businesses during the busy shopping season.

"We have some really fantastic independent retailers and fabulous restaurants, and if we don’t support them, they won’t stick around,"

“If you can take just a small part of your budget, go downtown on November 29th. Bring your family, bring your partner, get a hot cocoa, wander through the lights, shop through the stores, and contribute some of your Christmas budget to those local stores. It makes a huge impact.”

Shops and restaurants around Cochrane will stay open until 9:00 p.m. that night, with plenty of surprises in store. Jennifer Wanner, Executive Director of the Cochrane Chamber of Commerce, says Cochranites can expect even more holiday fun.

“Santa’s going to be there, Christmas carolers, and elves giving out coupons, store deals, and maybe even some gift cards."

The winner of the decorating contest will be announced live on the 28th by 91.5 FM CochraneNow. The business voted the best display will win a trophy for bragging rights to be displayed all year round.
