Charlie Yorston, a swimmer with the Strathmore Silver Sharks Swim Club, is heading to provincials next year.
Her qualification comes after an incredible performance at the 2024 RE/MAX Elk Valley Fall Blast in British Columbia earlier this month, where she placed first in every event she took part in.
"This is my eleventh season," said Yorston. "I was very happy. I've been training very hard these past two years, so it was nice to see my hard work pay off."
At the competition, Yorston won gold in the following categories:
- 50-metre butterfly.
- 50-metre freestyle.
- 100-metre breaststroke.
- 200-metre individual medley.
- 50-metre backstroke.
- 50-mebtre breaststroke.
According to the swim club, Yorston secured her spot in the open age category for provincials after achieving a time of 30.89 seconds in the 50-metre backstroke.
"I'm training currently with two teams and doing track as well for some extra endurance, so I definitely have a full schedule of training, working hard so that I can do well in provincials," added Yorston.
Yorston said she gained a passion for swimming when her mother would drop her and her brother off at the local pool.
"I just decided that swimming is what I wanted to do."
Provincials take place from March 20-23 in Edmonton.
