WATCH: Local postal workers picketing at main post office

Local postal workers of Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) Local 710 are picketing in front of the main post office in Cochrane,185 1st St. E., today (Nov. 15) and will be there until 2 p.m. today.

The local post office remains open.

Saying several unresolved issues left on the bargaining table, including fair wages and safer working conditions, CUPW called a national strike for both the Rural Suburban Mail Carriers (RSMC) and Urban Operations bargaining units that began today at 10 a.m. MST.

The union says approximately 55,000 workers are striking, including about 24 in Cochrane, and will disrupt mail delivery.

Several motorists honked their horns in support as they drove by the postal workers in the early stages of the picket.
