A news release was issued Friday about the closure of Portage la Prairie Interior Mall. It goes into effect after the final day of this year, December 31.
The release stated that the property is currently listed for sale by the owner and future plans are unknown at this time. Colliers has been proud to manage the property for 25 years and will continue to manage the property. While the interior mall will be closing, Tim Horton’s and RONA, located in distinct units on site, will remain open.
J.S. Furniture is currently exploring several options and more news will be available soon.
The one-time vibrant mall opened in 1979 and features 187,000 sq. ft. of retail space. PortageOnline will follow up on this story and provide more details should they become available.
As the property prepares for redevelopment, the company looks forward to continuing to serve the community. Plans are already in place for a new building to go up on the east side of the parking lot in 2025.
While the mall has seen numerous tenants over the years, only a handful of businesses have operated out of the facility for the last decade.
