Weyburn Comprehensive School was the scene of the SHSAA 5A girls' volleyball provincials this weekend. The host Weyburn Eagles would have a tough draw in the opening round, with a loss to the eventual champion Swift Current Ardens to open up the tournament.

Weyburn would end up finishing 0-4 in the round robin, while the only blemish to the record for Swift Current was a 2-1 (19-25, 25-23, 15-12) to Campbell Collegiate from Regina en route to the championship.

The Eagles opened with the 2-0 (25-19, 25-10) loss to Swift Current Friday afternoon. Their second game was a 2-0 (25-17, 25-21) loss to Campbell. Saturday morning, Weyburn would come up short against St. Joseph out of Saskatoon (25-15, 25-11), and then fell 2-0 (25-11, 25-21) in a heartbreaker against the Carlton Crusaders from Prince Albert.

The champion Ardens would pick up a 2-0 (25-15, 25-21) win over St. Joseph in the round robin and added a 2-0 (25-16, 25-13) win over Carlton.

In the medal round, Swift Current beat LeBoldus Collegiate from Regina 2-0 (25-19, 25-15) in the quarterfinals, and then topped St. Joseph 2-0 (25-4, 25-16) in the semi-finals to set up a match with the Greenall Griffins out of Balgonie in the finals. There, they won the gold medal with a 2-0 (25-15, 25-23) victory. Greenall finished with the silver medal, and Holy Cross from Saskatoon was third.
