Environment and Climate Change Canada says motorists heading south of Red Deer this morning will want to take caution with heavy snow in the forecast for the Calgary area, which could see up to 10 centimetres with a snowfall warning issued.

Meteorologist Ron Mark says Central Alberta could see some flurries as well over the next few days.

"We do have a chance of snow on and off through the week as well. Not expecting large accumulations. We should expect just some white snow every other day through the rest of the week, just with this cold air mass there is a higher potential for some light snow to develop."

Mark notes temperatures will take a dip starting Tuesday night.

"After the snow clears out, we do get into a bit of an arctic air mass. We do expect temperatures to cool off through the week. Expecting daytime highs around minus ten through minus teens and overnight lows even colder."

The normal daytime high for this time of year is around minus one with overnight lows around minus 11.

Environment Canada is forecasting highs in the mid-minus teens for the weekend.
