Coronach Merchants and Assiniboia Rebels continue winning streaks 

The Notekeu Hockey league had five games over the course of the weekend, with Coronach and Assiniboia continuing their streaks to lead their respective divisions, and Yellow Grass getting their first win of the season.  

Friday night, the Coronach Merchants entertained the Hodgeville Huskies. The Merchants would come out strong with five goals in the first period and coasted to an 8-3 win. Mason Fischer scored twice for the Merchants, with Alex Hicks, Karsten Elder, Randy Stowe, Keanan Elder, Curtis Noll, and Kyle Bouvier also scoring in the win. Tyrell Newton, Carson Sabine, and Travis Kennedy replied for the Huskies.  

The other game Friday night saw the expansion Mossbank Blades earn their second win of the young season as they travelled to Yellow Grass and beat the Wheat Kings 7-4. Matt Wade had a pair of goals in the win, with Ryder Petersen, Nathan Letnes, Riley Wilson, Brandin Cannon, and Tanner Nagel also tallying. The Wheat Kings had two goals from Todd Johnson, with Walker Watson and Connor Lafoy also scoring.  

The Assiniboia Rebels picked up a home win Saturday night with a 4-1 win over the Gravelbourg Hornets. Zack Evans scored twice, with Riley Malone and Landon Marit getting goals in the win. The lone goal for the Hornets came from Davyn Gauthier.  

The Wheat Kings would get a 3-2 win in overtime in Hodgeville on Saturday. Parker Douglas and Lafoy scored in regulation for Yellow Grass, with Kyle Mryglod scoring the game-winner in extra time. Dalton Menke was responsible for both goals for the Huskies.  

The weekend wrapped up with a big game for the Lafleche Flyers. They picked up a 9-2 win over the visiting Gravelbourg Hornets. Jake and Brady Starke scored two goals apiece, with Taylor Cowie, Rylan Switzer, Kayson Packet, Chad Brisebois, and Hadley Bouffard also scoring. The goals for the Hornets were from Ahmed Ally and Blake Duquette. 

A weekend of close calls and dramatic finishes in the Big Six 

Overtime was the theme Friday night in the Big Six Hockey League, with both of the games being played going into extra time. In Kipling, the Oil Kings would be edged out in extra time by the Oxbow Huskies. Cody Davis scored in regulation for Oxbow, and Carson Harcourt scored for the Oil Kings. The game-winner for Oxbow came from Alex Von Sprecken. 

The Carlyle Cougars would need a shootout to get past the Redvers Rockets 6-5. Presten Kopeck led the way for the Rockets with four goals, and Jordon Miller scored the fifth for the visiting team. The Cougars would get two goals from Ben Johnstone, with Cale Adams, Jon Gaudet, and Taysen Holt scoring as well. In the shootout, Gaudet would score the lone goal to secure the win.  

Saturday night would see the Wawota Flyers playing their first game of the season, as they entertained the Midale Mustangs. It would be a 7-4 win for the visitors, as the Mustangs moved into a tie for second in the standings. Josh Bear scored twice for the Mustangs, with Dallas Kickley, Connor Burk, Matt Geske, Sterling Bear, and Jonas Thomson also scoring. The Flyers had goals from Brady Dinwoodie, Taylor Ernst, Turner Jacobson, and Lucas Hislop.  

The Cougars hit the road Saturday to play the Carnduff Red Devils. It would be the Red Devils coming away with the win, though, as they skated to a 4-3 victory. Casey Thompson, Cooper Bowman, Matthew Plews, and Brandon Trask scored for the Red Devils, with Brett Turgeon, Josh Romanyk, and Riley Noven tallying for the Cougars.  

Bethune Bulldogs secure two victories in QVHHL action 

Just three of the four scheduled games in the QVHHL were played on the weekend, with the game on Saturday between Southey and Lumsden cancelled.  

Friday night, the Bethune Bulldogs picked up a 5-4 shootout win over the Marlins in Southey. Garrett Schmidt, Cole Kirkup, Evan Sare, and Brendan Albert scored for Bethune in regulation. Colby Brandt, Cole Kaiswatum, Tanner Exner, and Max Kotyk scored for Southey. In the shootout, Brandt would score for the Marlins, with Kirkup and Parker Hendren tallying for the Bulldogs for the win.  

The other game on Friday had the Milestone Flyers travelling to Balgonie to play the Bisons. Balgone would come out of the game with a 6-4 win. Riley Woykins scored twice for the Bisons, with the other goals coming from Jaxon Henry, Jacob Piller, Tyler Giebel, and Eric Bollefer. Taylor Halbgewachs, Zane Short, Eric Diekgrager, and Cody Hegion replied for Milestone in the loss.  

The lone game Saturday saw the Bulldogs make it two wins in a row as they beat the Bisons 7-4. Krikup and Kyler Sachkowski had a pair of goals each for Bethune. The other goals were from Mark Lustin, Parker Mymryk, and Brendan Albert. The goals for Balgonie were scored by Jaxon Henry, Aiden Gurski, Connor Giebel, and Lucas Nagel.
