High River residents are going to have a new buddy to help them with water conservation this summer.
The Town of High River is launching a community-wide initiative that will help people be mindful about water usage, both indoors and outdoors.
To help combat increasingly hot and dry summers and conserve water, the Town of High River has introduced LawNathan, which has become the face of the Town's mascot for their 2025 Water-Wise with LawNathan campaign.
The LawNathan mascot is also a reminder that lawns don't need to just be green, as brown lawns are okay.
As part of this campaign, LawNathan's hair will go from green to yellow to brown, which reflects what naturally happens when grass goes dormant.
It goes dormant to rest, conserve energy, and survive the summer heat without constant watering.
As part of the LawNathan campaign, the Town will be sharing simple tips, celebrating community efforts, and highlighting practical ways to save water.
"We're asking for your support. By being water-wise, you're helping protect a vital resource, strengthening our community, and showing pride in doing your part," the Town stated on their website about the campaign.
Currently, the Town of High River is at Normal Water Use, which allows residents to use automatic sprinklers to water lawns, gardens, and trees. or shrubs between 6 and 9 a.m. or 7 and 10 p.m.
Odd-numbered houses can water on Sundays and Thursdays, while even-numbered houses can water on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
