Airdrie singer-songwriter Celin is preparing for a busy summer as she launches her new single Red Eye and gears up for the release of her debut EP.
The single, which officially dropped on June 13th, is the title track for the upcoming album, tentatively scheduled for release on September 12.
Written in collaboration with her co-producer Scott Henderson, Red Eye marks a shift in Celin’s sound toward more upbeat, high-energy music, she said in an interview with Air 106.
“My music was a little more downtempo, and we wanted something super fun and high energy. We wrote this one from scratch and felt it needed to be the title track.”
The album reflects Celin’s journey as an independent artist, following years of writing and preparing for her first major release.
“This album is really about pursuing my dreams. It embodies where I am right now—recording, putting the music out and committing to this path.”
Celin grew up in Airdrie and credits the city’s supportive music scene for helping her develop as an artist.
“There’s always been a strong sense of community here, especially for musicians who are just getting started. The people here are supportive in a way that’s different from a big city.”
She also acknowledges the mentorship of local artist Steve Cheney, who has provided her with opportunities and guidance.
As for musical influences, Celin points to Stevie Wonder and Amy Winehouse as key inspirations for her soulful sound.
“You can feel the stories in their songs—the energy, the soul, that’s what I want to bring through my music as well.”
Celin celebrated the release of Red Eye with a full-band show Sunday at Best of Kin Social in downtown Calgary. It was her first full-band performance as a solo artist.
She is also planning a series of shows ahead of the EP release, with dates scheduled in Kelowna at Redbird and Kettle River Brewing and hopes to add performances in Calgary and Edmonton later this year.
