Altona Police Service is warning drivers about the potentially fatal consequences of speeding.

The message comes after officers stopped multiple vehicles this past weekend for travelling over the posted speed limit.

One ticket was issued, along with a serious offence notice, to a driver going 162 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. In a second incident, the driver was issued a ticket and serious offence notice for a MPI driver's license review when the vehicle was clocked at 153km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

According to a social media post by the department, speeding tickets like these will cost the offenders over $800.

"Regardless of the reason, driving at extremely high speeds can turn a difficult situation into a dangerously fatal one," stated the post.
