As summer activities continue, Luseland police are reminding residents of the local laws governing the operation of golf carts within town limits and surrounding areas. These regulations are in place to maintain safety for all road users and to ensure that the community can continue to enjoy the use of golf carts responsibly, with the local course conveniently located across the highway from the West Central community.

Golf carts are permitted to be operated only during daylight hours, specifically from half an hour before sunrise until half an hour after sunset. The vehicles are not allowed on provincial highways except for crossing them and cannot be driven on roadways with speed limits exceeding 50 kilometres per hour.

Operators must hold a valid driver’s licence to drive golf carts on public roads. Additionally, golf cart owners are required to maintain a minimum of $200,000 in third-party liability insurance.

Golf carts must adhere to the rules outlined in the Traffic Safety Act, including obeying stop signs and other traffic controls. Impaired driving laws at both federal and provincial levels apply to golf cart operation as well.

Police officers have the authority to request proof of license and insurance from golf cart operators during roadside checks.

These guidelines aim to promote a safe environment on roads while allowing residents to enjoy the convenience and recreation of golf carts during the summer months. Authorities thank the community for cooperating and continuing to prioritize road safety.
