Every year in mid-September Federated Co-op launches their Fuel Good Day where 5 cents from every purchase of fuel at their C-store gas bowsers go towards an organization or project in that community.
Each year Boundary Co-op matches that 5 cents with 5 cents of their own! In addition $1 from every Co-op coffee and slush sold also is added to the pot.
Three communities benefit from these proceeds each year; Boissevain, Deloraine and Killarney.
"We've got three great groups again this year," shares Marketing Manager, Cheryl Rushing.
"The Deloraine Ag Society has a refreshed crew doing fantastic work with the summer fair and making renovations and improvements to buildings and facilities on the ag grounds. They applied for Fuel Good Day this year, and we expect they’ll do great things with the funds raised!"
The second group is the Boissevain Community Arts Council reaping the proceeds from the Boissevain gas bar.
"We are super excited to have them! They do great things with youth and art in our community and we're really, really excited to support them this year."
This year at Killarney's C-store fuel pumps, the Killarney-Turtle Mountain Fire Department will be on hand to help with cleaning your windshield, filling up your fuel tank and using the funds raised through Fuel Good Day to purchase necessary equipment to help keep their community safe.
"Fire departments are vital services in our communities and rely heavily on volunteers," explains Rushing. "The Killarney department is looking to purchase new breathing apparatuses and other equipment. They’re a great organization to work with, and we partner with them throughout the year. Fuel Good Day is a great opportunity to give back in a big way."

We're always keeping our eyes on our gas tanks, but as we near September 16th you might want to take special care in when to fill up and how much to put in leading up to that date.
"We typically don’t recommend letting your gas tank get so low that the warning light comes on," laughs Rushing, "but if you’re going to do it, that’s the day! Ten cents per litre of fuel sold on Fuel Good Day will benefit these groups. It might not seem like much, but when thousands of litres are sold, it adds up quickly. We also have other initiatives in the works that will benefit these groups, so keep an eye on our social media for updates."
"We’ll continue with the coffee and slush fundraiser this year too. If you stop by one of our C-stores, grab a coffee or slush—maybe even one for a coworker—because $1 from each sale will be donated to these groups," she adds.
