A former Swift Current high school teacher could soon have her teaching certificate revoked in light of pleading guilty to sex crimes involving a minor.
Kara Braun, 38, attended a virtual disciplinary hearing last Wednesday conducted by the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board (SPTRB).
The SPTRB’s professional conduct committee was seeking the most severe sanction they could impose, which is the revocation of Braun’s certificate.
Braun had previously pleaded guilty to one count of being in a position of trust or authority toward a minor for a sexual purpose, inciting the minor to touch the body of the accused.
During Wednesday’s meeting, Braun said she agreed to all of the facts of the case laid out by the board and agreed not to contest the charge against her.
The committee said it would do its best to render a written decision as soon as possible.
She was sentenced in court to 90 days of intermittent jail time, 23 weeks of probation and a $100 fine.
