Shaunavon's Memorial Park was buzzing with hundreds of people over the weekend during the inaugural Community Labour Day Picnic in the Park.

Welcome2Shaunavon & Area hosted the outdoor event on Monday afternoon with free gourmet hot dogs sponsored by the Affinity Credit Union in Shaunavon.

Brenda Waldron, chairperson for the Welcome2Shuanavon & Area Committee, shared that they were thrilled to serve around 150 hot dogs.

"It was fabulous, especially because we advertised late due to the weather, and a lot of people already had their long weekend plans in place," she said. "We organize events that bring our established community as well as our new residents, so that they get to know each other."

The free barbecue and games for the whole family started at 1:00 p.m., while live music from local musicians kicked off around 1:30 p.m. Folks could also bring out a lawn chair or blanket to watch the Saskatchewan RoughRider game.

"We're super happy and we look forward to doing it again next year," added Waldron.
