Environment and Climate Change Canada was tracking a system yesterday that had the possibility of sending tornadoes into Southeastern Saskatchewan and Southwestern Manitoba. That system is an offshoot of a larger area around North Dakota, which has resulted in a recent tornado outbreak in the area.

Meteorologist Crawford Luke says that we managed to miss the worst of what that storm could have brought.

"We had this low that was kind of slowly drifting north into southwestern Manitoba. It brought these favourable conditions. So far, all we know of is maybe one or two funnel cloud reports from the southwest corner of Manitoba. There's one near Virden and then potentially a second one."

"Those are the only reports that we have so far from the whole system yesterday. So I guess nothing on the Saskatchewan side that we know of, at least at this point."

North Dakota has instead received more serious weather, with Luke saying they saw over 20 tornadoes over the weekend.

"It's that same system that came north, but yeah, so far it kind of looks like maybe we got some funnel clouds out of it, but not aware of any tornadoes, at least at this time. Sometimes we find out about things later on, so that could possibly happen."

Not only did the southeast miss any tornadoes, but we also had a relatively normal storm, as more extreme conditions, like hail and harsh winds, didn't pop up.

"Not aware of anything like that from yesterday," said Luke, "Just some funnel cloud reports and some rain, and that was pretty much it."

While storms will continue through the week, Luke expects the risk of tornadoes to drop moving forward.

"I think the potential is looking a little less conducive. It looks like today, the better conditions may not be around. I suppose tomorrow there's a chance we could see some of those conditions again, where you see a funnel cloud or landspout.

Luke advises people to keep an eye on the weather in general as thunderstorms will continue to be an issue through the week.
