The Swift Current Broncos have inked another of their future stars.

2025 WHL Prospects Draft 2nd round pick Luke Huska has put pen to paper on his WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

"We're really excited about Luke," said Broncos GM Chad Leslie. "He's a guy who has taken another step. I was in Red Deer and saw him at the Alberta Cup. He has grown again. He just keeps growing, keeps developing, and exceeding my expectations every time I see him."

Huska led the Edge U15 Prep team with 14 goals and 27 assists in 34 CCSHL games last season.

"I think I'm a really good two-way centerman," Huska said. "I can play both sides of the ice really well. I think the one thing that really sets me apart is my hockey sense and my playmaking. I really like to distribute the puck and set teammates up for a lot of soaring chances."

He's excited to be a part of the Broncos.

"They're an amazing organization," Huska told Swift Current Online shortly after being drafted. "Being part of that, being part of any organization in the WHL is an honor, but doing it with Swift Current, which is a great organization is just it adds on to that. I'm really looking forward to it. Honestly, I can't thank them enough."

Huska comes from a hockey background as the son of Calgary Flames Head Coach Ryan Huska.

"He's just a pleasure," Leslie said. "Just a real great kid, good family, really good habits, and he's going to be a really good player for us down the road."

That background in the game has been a part of Huska developing his hockey sense.

"Growing up around the game, I think just watching a lot of hockey pick up on what other people are doing," Huska said. "Then just picking up on what other people doing and implementing it to your game really helps. Coaches tell you things along the way. You just got to really try to focus in on what they're saying and try to do it to the best of your abilities."

Now the focus is on learning and getting stronger.

"I think the biggest thing for me is going to be just getting in the gym," Huska said. "I want to get stronger, get faster. Right now, I'm not the biggest guy, but I know I'm not done growing. Building as much strength, as much muscle as I can, is really going to help me. And then obviously, I think the strength part is going to help me with my skating, which is the next thing that we want to get better at here. It's just getting faster."

Huska is set to spend this season with Edge in CSSHL U18 Prep.

He isn't eligible to play in the WHL full time until next season.

The Broncos open their WHL regular season on Friday against the Regina Pats.
