The Beaver Flat 50 saw a huge number of runners lace up for the event this year.
The final count for the 2025 race run through the Lake Diefenbaker hills was exactly 601. Competitors participated in five-kilometre, ten-kilometre, 20-kilometre, and 50-kilometre races, with children being able to enjoy the kids' race.
Daren Dreher was the captain at Goodwin House during the Beaver Flat 50. He ventured that the fastest time would come in around four hours and 30 minutes, versus the last person to finish, probably hitting the cut-off time of 10 hours.
"Andy Collins has been the winner in the past," said Dreher. "This year, he has had some issues and didn't make it to the finish."
This year, the results had Ryan Burke finishing first overall in the male category with a time of 5:10:56. Brandi Venne won in the female division with a time of 5:37:46. In the Agender category, Naomi Bird won with a time of 8:20:06.
For their efforts, they receive one of the most unique trophies in running.
"A taxidermy beaver head!" said Dreher. "They're really cool."
This was the ninth year of the Beaver Flat 50. It was originally created by the Dudar brothers, Jeff and Warren. They still operate the event, with the mindset of keeping it family-friendly and fun.
So far, the furthest anyone has travelled for this event that Dreher knew of is over 6,500 miles.
"A guy was here from Saskatoon, working in Saskatoon from Denmark," said Dreher. "That's the furthest that I know of. There could be others."
