Mail delays could be common in Manitoba and across the country as Canada's crown corporation experiences COVID-19-related staffing issues.
Manitobans are not alone in noticing their mail being delayed. Canada Post says this is occurring across the country as they are experiencing staffing issues due to the pandemic and the effects of omicron.
"We’re responding by implementing contingency plans where necessary and adjusting our operations to serve Canadians," an email Canada Post says. "This situation is fluid across the country and customers may experience delays over the next few weeks."
The Government of Manitoba would not comment on the COVID-19 situation at Canada Post in Winnipeg.
"Manitoba Public Health would investigate a cluster or outbreak but would only comment on cases if there was a need to alert the public. Everyone who either tests positive or has symptoms is asked to follow the public health orders and isolate as necessary," an email from the province says.
They say temporary measures may be going into place could include short-term closures or the reduction of hours at some post offices.
"While we respond to this current situation, we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our people and the communities we serve. In addition to our Mandatory Vaccination Practice, we’re continuing to follow COVID-19 safety protocols in the workplace," Canada Post says.
