Tomorrow March 17th at 2:00pm the Rady JCC, the Music 'N' Mavens Concert and Lecture Series will present Winnipeg’s Dirty Catfish Brass Band. (DCBB) Known for their energetic and lively shows, the DCBB performs tunes that are brimming with funk and soul. The group draws on the New Orleans Brass Band tradition to perform shows that will get you up on your feet.
Founded in 2011, the Dirty Catfish Brass Band came about as a result of a trip that keyboard player Aaron Chodirker made to New Orleans. Hearing many New Orleans street bands, Aaron was inspired to create something similar for Winnipeg, and thus the DCBB was born.
Made up of eight highly trained musicians, the DCBB have become staples of the music scene here in Winnipeg. They have performed at the Winnipeg Jazz Festival, Bomber Games, Night clubs, outdoor street parties etc. Wherever people want to be energized and hear fun and joyful music, the DBCC are up to the task.
Tomorrow’s concert will feature music from the New Orleans tradition of brass bands. As saxophonist Kyle Wedlake states “We’re trying to make it feel like you’re out on parade… we’ll be sticking to more of the street party brass music. Just imagine yourself walking down the street with an open bottle as you can in Louisiana... and just strolling on a hot summer day. That’s kind of what we’re going for”
After this long, snowy cold winter we have had, why not get a taste of the Louisiana bayou. The Dirty catfish Brass Band will be sure to entertain you, and get you dancing in your chair, or maybe in the aisle!
The concert is tomorrow, March 17th, 2022 at 2:00pm at the Rady JCC.
