Opera is back on tap at Little Brown Jug Brewing Company.
Flipside Opera and Art Song Collective’s Opera by the Pint returns for its fourth season on Wednesday, July 6.
“It’s always such a popular event,” says Flipside’s Lisa Rumpel, crediting the outstanding — and always changing — singers who perform, the vast amount of repertoire to choose from, and the casual atmosphere of the brew hall and outdoor patio.
Drawing a crowd of supportive opera fans and casual passersby alike, the event aims to take away any perceived stuffiness of the grand art form.
“You don’t need to know anything about opera and you don’t have to sit and be quiet and read a program,” explains Rumpel.
And it isn’t just opera at Opera by the Pint.
Ranging from established professional performers to amateur singers taking the stage, the laidback format typically divides the evening into three sets of 4-5 numbers each.
“We have a really nice mix of music,” says Rumpel, including musical theatre selections, cabaret style singing, duets and, of course, opera.
Each of the pieces is introduced by Flipside’s artistic director Judith Oatway and features accompaniment by Deena Grier.
Opera by the Pint takes place at Little Brown Jug Brewing Company (336 William Ave.) and begins at 7 p.m.
