MANY MOODS CONCERT POSTER

On Sunday, November 27th at 3:00pm at The Lutheran Church of the Cross, The Winnipeg Wind Ensemble will be putting on a concert that they are calling “Many Moods.”

Formed in the fall of 1985 by band directors and other professional musicians, The Winnipeg Wind Ensemble is dedicated to bringing wind band music of the highest quality to Winnipeg audiences. The ensemble is the premiere Wind Band in the Province.

The concert on Sunday will explore the many feelings and challenges we have had to deal with over the last two and half years.

Ginny Helmer is the Artistic Director of the ensemble. For her the idea of exploring moods created by music has particular importance. “I had a number of things on my mind that I wanted to do…but this idea of music as catharsis, as a way of sort of processing either emotions that you are aware of or that you are not even aware of; being able to experience things through art that you wouldn’t normally experience in your life. This inspired me to choose the repertoire that is on this concert.”

The program for the concert is very diverse. There is music by Eric Whitacre, Gordon Jacob and Mexican composer Arturo Marquez amongst others.

One of the highlights of the concert they are going to be feature two saxophone soloists. The Prairie Saxophone Initiative is a saxophone duo that consists of Chinley Hinacay and Mathew Robinson. They will be performing Jordon Gudefin’s piece “Scherzo Furioso.” This is music that was written for the 2015 World Saxophone Conference for saxophonists Branford Marsalis and Claude Delangle. “It’s a wild ride from beginning to end,” states Helmer.

“Many Moods” promises to be an entertaining and engaging concert, that will put on full display the excellent musicianship and abilities of the players of the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble.

The cost of the concert is very reasonable. $5.00 for students, and $15.00 for adults and tickets can be purchased at the door. For more information visit the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble’s website
