It's another busy day in the Bernie Kemick Show Ring as 4-H events take center stage.

This morning it was the 4-H Team Grooming Competition, 4-H Group Entry, and 4-H Club Showmanship.

The Female Pen Show judging gets underway at noon.

This afternoon it's the 4-H Cloverbud class, 4-H Heifer Futurity show, and the Supreme Champion 4-H Female competition.

The 4-H program is a key staple in many rural areas across the province and the country with the overall goal to inspire youth to continue to learn and grow.

That focus is evident through the 4-H pledge:

"I pledge My head to clearer thinking, My heart to greater loyalty, My hands to larger service, My health to better living, For my club, my community, my country, and my world."

Saturday is another big day for the 4-H it's the 4-H Steer show and Showmanship classes, at 2 pm it's the Goat Show in the grass arena, the 4-H award presentations begin at 3 pm, with the 4-H Steer sale at 4 pm.

Overall, the 4-H livestock program guides participants through the selection, care, and feeding of livestock, animal health, and the importance of good record keeping.

At one time the livestock program focused on Light Horse and Beef but has now expanded to include other livestock like goats.

The goat program is similar to the beef program in that 4-H members learn how to differentiate the many breeds, they learn the basics of animal health and nutrition, how to show an animal in competition, how the animals are used, and their end-use products.
