Driver ticketed after two-vehicle crash on Highway 75

There were only minor injuries in a crash involving a semi and sport utility vehicle on Highway 75 Wednesday afternoon.
    
According to RCMP, a 74-year-old woman from Ontario was heading north in her SUV when she missed her turn onto Marchand Road near Howden. The crash happened when she attempted to turn around. 
    
As a result, about four kilometres of the northbound lanes of Highway 75 were closed for just over an hour.
    
The woman was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act.

Wildlife rehab centre attempts harrowing rescue of injured duck

Volunteers from Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre at Ile des Chenes made a harrowing rescue on Wednesday in Altona, rescuing an injured Mallard duck.

The duck had been living at Altona's Buffalo Creek Nature Pond all summer and, with the help of locals, rehab centre officials had been monitoring its situation. 

Pilot Mound man facing charges after police seize over 400 grams of cocaine in traffic stop

A 42-year-old man from Pilot Mound is facing charges after the vehicle he was driving was pulled over by officers with the Winkler Police Service (WPS) around 5:30 Friday afternoon.

According to a WPS news release, an officer made the stop on Highway 23 near Myrtle in relation to an investigation of a man believed to be trafficking cocaine into the Winkler/Morden area. The driver was arrested.

With some help from members of the Morden Police Service, officers found $2,475 in cash and 441 grams of cocaine worth an estimated $44,100.

Altona police investigating Thanksgiving weekend vandalism

One person has been charged with Mischief after surveillance footage revealed he broke some windows at Sun Valley Co-op's Home Centre in Altona.

According to the Altona Police Service (APS), officers found the suspect at a nearby restaurant, where he was causing a disturbance, shortly after the incident.
    

This wasn't the only mischief complaint reported to Altona police over the Thanksgiving weekend.

The application deadline has come and gone in Manitoba's PC leadership race, and the party has confirmed two candidate packages have been submitted.
    
They are from Fort Whyte MLA, Obby Kahn, and Manitoba businessman, Wally Daudrich.

Obby Khan submitted his completed application on Wednesday, October 2nd. The LEC has completed its review of Mr. Khan’s application and conducted a candidate interview. The LEC confirms that Mr. Obby Khan has been approved to run in the PC Party’s leadership race.
