A story of childhood memories laced with sweet nostalgia is what inspired author Jill Anderson Cavanagh to sit down one afternoon 20 years ago and write. 

The book that she had created then sat untouched for several years, with no notions to be published. 

That is until one day during the pandemic, when Cavanagh rediscovered her forgotten work and sent it over to a friend on a whim. 

Naturopathic Medicine week highlights lifestyle

Swift Current city council proclaimed that the week of May 16 to 20, 2022 will be recognized as Naturopathic Medicine Week during Monday night’s meeting. 

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary healthcare system that blends modern, scientific knowledge with traditional and natural healing. 

Throughout the week, Across Canada and the United States, naturopathic doctors will be teaching members of their community about the value of naturopathic medicine, healthy living and disease prevention. 

Adventure and thrills on the way

Adventure, thrills, and excitement will be making an entrance into Swift Current with The Great Benjamin’s Circus next week. 

The circus will be in Swift Current on Monday, May 23, and is set to perform two shows. 

Maude Fournier, Production Coordinator for The Great Benjamin’s Circus, said that the shows will be loaded with thrills and tricks. 

RCMP need assistance from public

The Swift Current Municipal RMCP have asked for assistance in locating a number of electronic components and software for a security system. 

The missing items were for a security system being installed in a building in a Swift Current building. 

RCMP said that the theft occurred between April 28 and May 11, 2022, from a construction site on the 0 block of 5th Ave Northeast. 

RCMP now eligible for veteran license plates

Eligibility on veteran license plates has been expanded, now allowing for Royal Canadian Mounted Police members in Saskatchewan to receive one of the specialty plates. 

Members of the RCMP who have served a minimum of three years are eligible to apply for the license plate. 

Don Morgan, minister responsible for SGI and MLA for Saskatoon Southeast, said that he believes it is a terrific way to acknowledge the officers of Saskatchewan. 

“I think it's a wonderful way for as a province for us to say thank you to our police officers,” he said. 

Ceremony honours Afghanistan and Peacekeeping veterans

A dedication ceremony for two new plaques took place at the Cenotaph in Memorial Park on Saturday. 

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 Swift Current in partnership with the Comrades Forever Motorcycle Club and the City of Swift Current hosted the ceremony. 

The ceremony began with a parade outside the Legion at 12:45 p.m. which proceeded to Memorial Park. 

SPSA equipped for 2022 season

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) held a media briefing recently to provide insight on their spring outlook and the preparations that have been made for the 2022 season. 

Precautions and preparations are taken each year concerning flooding, grassfires, and wildfires in the province.

Morse RCMP investigating single car incident

An incident that took place in Herbert yesterday afternoon resulted in Fire and EMS services being called to tend to minor injuries. 

Around 3:15 yesterday, Morse RCMP received a call about an incident involving a lone vehicle. 

According to RCMP, a group of teenagers left school property in a private vehicle and proceeded to drive on grid roads in an area called Trail Hill, which consists of a series of hills. 

Saskatchewan continues to invest in Mental Health and Addictions

The Government of Saskatchewan is providing significant funding to implement training for Community Based Organizations (CBO’s) who are providing mental health and addictions services through the health system.  

A one-time grant of $250,000 is being made to the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH) to deliver the virtual training to CBO’s. 

Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Swift Current MLA, Everett Hindley, said that the government is taking steps to ensure that all eligible CBO’s have access to the training. 

Dedication ceremony honours the fallen

A dedication ceremony will be taking place tomorrow at the Cenotaph in Memorial Park for the two new plaques that are set to be installed. 

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 Swift Current in partnership with the Comrades Forever Motorcycle Club and the City of Swift Current will be hosting the ceremony. 

Head of Public Relations for the Swift Current branch, John Griffin, said that the ceremony will look similar to the annual Remembrance Day service.
