Short-handed Broncos split two games against Mustangs

Friday recap

--

Broncos’ vs Mustangs: It just means more.

It doesn’t matter if its game 7 in the finals or game 47 of the regular season. It just means more when the Broncos and Mustangs, two teams not even in the same division, go head-to-head.

The closet geographical opponent has been the league’s premium presence from wire to wire, boasting a 39-7-0 overall record, while somehow even more daunting at home, losing only once in 22 games.

Broncos Point Streak Extends to 4 Games with 6-1 win over Hawks

The right track continues for the Humboldt Broncos who defeated the Nipawin Hawks 6-1 to secure 7 of 8 points in their current four-game point streak.

An all-around controlling effort for 60 minutes combined with strong special teams allowed the Broncos to dictate the flow of the game while routinely rolling all four lines who all contributed in the win.

3rd Period Collapse Results First 3-Game Slide of Season

The Humboldt Broncos had a 3-2 lead in the third period before it all fell apart, giving up five straight goals in a 7-3 loss to the Weyburn Red Wings on Thursday night.

Capping off the 2024 calendar year was a three-game in three-day road trip for the Broncos, who need points to get back above the playoff line, and ideally, leaving hopes for a happy holiday hiatus. With six points available, the Broncos will have to settle for a maximum of four with the loss that also handed them their first three-game losing streak of the season.

Broncos Fall Flat in Loss to Ice Wolves

Failed tricks and lack of treats for the Humboldt Broncos during their 7-4 loss to the La Ronge Ice Wolves, as self-inflicted wounds and a lack of energy throughout the first and third period led to a spooky outcome on Tuesday’s Halloween inspired night.

The opening period lacked the normal intensity we had been accustomed to seeing from the Broncos’ games over the past few weeks, while Mason Bueckert scored the lone goal to give La Ronge a 1-0 lead.

The second period was back to business for Humboldt. Needless to say, 20 minutes doesn’t win too many hockey games.

Broncos' Holtvogt shines in opening appearance

Local boy, Brady Holtvogt suited up for his first career SJHL start in his hometown arena and turned aside all 30 shots faced picking up his first career win in a 1-0 shutout victory for the Broncos over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Saturday.

In the same building where he played the majority of his minor hockey career growing up, Holtvogt was the crowd favourite all night long, increasingly amplifying the EPA audience’s cheers with every save he made through the 60 minutes.
