City offers water stations during unseasonably high temperatures

The city of Winnipeg is offering ways for people, especially those experiencing homelessness, a way to cool off during the extreme heat to start the week. 

There is a heat warning in effect for the city of Winnipeg and southern Manitoba as daytime highs will be in the low to mid-thirties and overnight lows may only drop to 16 degrees, lasting until Wednesday.

The city is sharing four water tanks to give residents access to clean drinking water. They are located at: 

Multiple grass fires keep crews busy Monday as Winnipeg fire ban remains in effect

Several grass fires have kept Winnipeg fire crews busy Monday morning. 

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to three grass fires in different areas of the city, including Whittier Park, the 2900 block of McPhillips Street and the 1100 block of Logan Avenue. 

Crews were able to contain and extinguish the fires quickly. However, they are reminding Winnipeggers that a fire ban remains in effect for the city of Winnipeg. 

Over 200 child predators arrested, 115 children freed from trafficking in U.S.

A cross-U.S. sting operation has resulted in over 200 child sex predators being arrested, while roughly 115 children were found and rescued. 

Recently, the Department of Justice worked alongside local authorities to work together to identify, track, and arrest child sex predators.

‘Overwhelmed by support’: Steinbach fundraiser brings hope to Tasha Wiese

A fundraiser held at MJ’s Kafe in Steinbach raised $20,000 to support Tasha Wiese, a local daycare worker who lost both hands and her legs above the knees due to severe health complications.

Wiese was hospitalized on March 10 with severe pneumonia, invasive Group A Streptococcus, and septic shock, which led to the amputations. 

Rebecca St. James releases new song featuring her daughters

Rebecca St. James has released a new song that is especially close to her heart because it features a couple of extra special guests. 

The new track, "You Make Everything Beautiful," features her daughters, 7-year-old Imogen and 11-year-old Gemma.

"Wow, is it a tear-jerker!" said Rebecca in a post on Instagram. "It gets me every time, cause their voices represent the innocence of childhood and the loveliness of family."

"Quite the full circle moment," said Rebecca's brothers, Joel and Luke Smallbone. "We’re proud uncles over here."

No success without wisdom

I don't know of a hotter subject today than success. Magazine articles, books, seminars, and sermons promote it. 

But success is seldom linked with wisdom. Chances are good that if we would pick up last Sunday's paper and read it through, we'd come across 20 or more references to success, yet find nothing added regarding wisdom. 

In today's hype about success, wisdom is conspicuous by its absence. Outside of biblical literature and biblically based books, we hardly even come across the Word….

Controversial goal sinks Jets as Stars take Game 3

A controversial goal early in the third period proved to be the turning point Sunday afternoon as the Dallas Stars defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5–2 in Game 3 of their second-round series.

With the score tied 2–2, Dallas defenceman Alexander Petrovic appeared to direct the puck into the net with a kicking motion just 3:51 into the period.

Missing girl last seen on Saturday safely located

The Winnipeg Police Service says a missing 14-year-old girl has been found safe. 

Police say that the girl was last seen on Saturday,  May 10, at 11:00 p.m. in the Jefferson Avenue and McGregor Street area of Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Police Service was concerned for her wellbeing and ilwas asking anyone with any information regarding their whereabouts to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit.

On Sunday evening they sent out a release saying she had been found.

The federal government expects to spend about $7 million this fiscal year to store and maintain four custom-made, portable hospitals that cost taxpayers more than $200 million to buy — facilities meant to bolster overwhelmed hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic that were barely used.

Early on in the pandemic, as the federal government moved at breakneck speed to respond to a global health crisis, it issued rush orders for these Mobile Health Units.

At 94, Christian educator fulfills God-given dream with doctorate

A 94-year-old university graduate is inspiring students around the world after walking across the stage more than 60 years after first starting her doctoral journey.

Virginia J. Morelock earned her Doctor of Education in Curriculum & Instruction: Elementary Education through Liberty University Online Programs in September. On Friday, she finally celebrated her achievement in person, crossing the stage during Liberty’s 52nd Commencement ceremony in Lynchburg, Va.

“It’s been 63 years since I started,” Morelock said. “It’s very, very exciting.”
