NDP, Conservatives focus on battleground B.C. heading into final election week

The Conservatives and NDP spent the weekend hunting votes in British Columbia — a key late-campaign battleground that one pollster says may offer Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre his best shot at victory.

Singh was asked if he was advocating strategic voting to shore up the party's flagging support against possible Conservative inroads in the region.

Canadians remember Pope Francis for historic apology for residential schools

Pope Francis will be remembered by Canadian Catholics as a progressive leader whose approach to the papacy helped usher in a new era of Indigenous relations and make the church more responsive to its rank and file.

The Vatican says the pontiff died Monday at age 88.

Francis was the global leader of Canada's most popular organized religion. Nearly 11 million Canadians identified as Catholic in the 2021 census, second only to those without a religious affiliation.

Pope Francis dies Easter Monday at 88

After a months-long health battle, Pope Francis has died.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced his death early on Easter Monday, saying he died at 7:35 a.m. in Vatican City.

"His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church," said Cardinal Kevin Farrell in a press conference. "He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favour of the poorest and most marginalized."

Verse of the day: April 21

John 10:28-30

"I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one."
