Spring temperatures have finally arrived in Winnipeg, and starting this weekend, City of Winnipeg golf courses will begin opening for the season.

This includes a new addition to the City’s courses this year: Canoe Club Golf Course, located at 50 Dunkirk Dr.

Here's a look at what's open & closed in Winnipeg over the Easter holiday, including Easter Monday. 

Garbage & recycling pickup

Garbage pickup is as normal on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

The Brady Road 4R Winnipeg Depot will be open to residential customers on Good Friday and Easter Monday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Brady Road Landfill will be open to commercial customers from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The city’s other two 4R Winnipeg Depots, on Panet Road and Pacific Avenue, will be closed on Friday and Monday.

A new animated series sharing the life of Christ will be released on Easter Sunday.

When it comes to the Bible, picking it up and reading it from front to back can be a task for many. RevelationMedia has found a way around this.

The Manitoba Museum is preparing to honour one of the greatest Canadians to ever live later this week.  

The museum’s 20th annual Tribute Gala takes place this Thursday night, and it will pay tribute to the late Honourable Murray Sinclair, who passed away last fall.

Helen Klassen nee Friesen, 94, of Winkler passed away Monday, April 14th at Salem Home. She is survived by 3 daughters, 1 son, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband David M. Klassen. 
The funeral service for Helen Klassen nee Friesen will be held Saturday, April 19th at 2pm at Winkler Reinland Mennonite Church with burial at Hochfeld Cemetery. 
Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler Friday, April 18th from 1 to 7pm.

Funeral For:  Peter Funk 
Funeral Date: April 19, 2025 
Peter Funk, 86, of Steinbach passed away Sunday, April 13th at Vita Hospital. He is survived by his wife Betty, 1 daughter, 3 sons, and their families.  
A memorial service for Peter Funk will be held Saturday, April 19th at 2pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with private family burial at Heritage Cemetery.

The Anne Oake Family Recovery Centre will receive $1.5 million in funding from the Manitoba government.

The province announced on Tuesday that it will provide the funds through the Mino’Ayaawag Ikwewag Strategy.

"The Anne Oake Family Recovery Centre will offer hope and healing for women with addictions," said Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine. "By giving women a supportive space where they can focus on healing, we are building healthier communities for women and their children as part of our Mino’Ayaawag Ikwewag Strategy."

Doctor Dennis Giesbrecht, 88, of Steinbach passed away Monday, April 14th at Bethesda Regional Health Centre. He is survived by his wife Rose, 4 daughters, 2 sons, 1 sister, 1 brother, 1 sister-in-law, and their families. He was predeceased by 2 sisters and 1 brother. 
The funeral service for Doctor Dennis Giesbrecht will be held Monday, April 21st at 1pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. Private family burial will take place. 

RCMP in Manitoba say a woman who went missing in Thompson has been found safe.

On April 16, 2025, Ashern RCMP received a report of a missing 30-year-old female from Thompson.

Mounties said at the time that she was last seen at a residence on Thompson Drive.

RCMP sent out an update later in the afternoon on Wednesday, saying the woman had been safely located. 

The RCMP thanked the public for their assistance.

Chess players from high schools across Winnipeg held a special tournament during spring break in support of peace in Ukraine. 

It was all part of the Manitoba School Chess Championship, which was hosted at Ecole Secondaire Sisler High School on April 1. 

This year, the Chess Club collaborated with the Social Justice Club and the Manitoba Chess Association, playing for peace in Ukraine and collecting funds for the Canada-Ukraine Foundation.
