Winnipeg police warning women after multiple groping incidents

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit is investigating after multiple reports of females being groped from behind by an unknown male who then runs away. 

Six separate incidents were reported between Sept. 25 to 28, 2024. Six adult females reported that the sexual assaults occurred in the following areas:

Thousands gather for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation march and powwow in Winnipeg

Downtown Winnipeg was a sea of orange Monday as thousands of people marched from The Forks to the RBC Convention Centre to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Organized by the Wa-Say Healing Centre, this fourth annual healing walk brought together participants from various communities to honour the legacy of residential school survivors and the children who never returned home.

At the powwow following the march, Premier Wab Kinew led the grand entry, dressed in his regalia, symbolizing a commitment to reconciliation and remembrance.

Minimum wage in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, P.E.I. increases

The minimum wage in four provinces is going up today.

Saskatchewan's minimum wage is going up by a dollar to $15, but it will still be the lowest in Canada, along with Alberta.

In Manitoba, the rate is going up by 50 cents to $15.80, a hike that follows a formula set in provincial law tied to the rate of inflation of the previous calendar year.

The rate in Ontario is rising by 65 cents to $17.20 an hour, an increase tied to inflation.

Canadian MPs join Australian, New Zealand peers in pushing for Palestine statehood

Canadian members of Parliament are working with their colleagues in Australia and New Zealand to try and convince their respective governments to jointly recognize Palestinian statehood.

NDP MP Heather McPherson, who is leading an effort to recruit Canadian MPs, said building on work the three governments have already done might be the best leverage to advance a two-state solution.

Christian author praises God after son survives horrific bike crash

Best-selling and award-winning Christian author, podcaster and artist, Ruth Chou Simons is praising God as her son continues to heal following a serious mountain biking incident. 

One week ago, Simon's son, Judah was out on a trail with his brother Liam, when he was involved in a horrific crash. 

"He was flown off the trail directly to a hospital and then transferred to a trauma center," said Chou Simons in a post on Instagram. 

She said, at the time he had multiple fractured vertebrae, broken ribs, and internal bleeding, but he had feeling in his legs. 

New Bothwell woman killed in Highway 59 collision

Mounties say one woman is dead following an early morning crash on Highway 59 north of the Niverville turnoff.

The RCMP say in a press release that the collision occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, near the intersection of Highway 59 and PTH 311.

According to the RCMP, a two-vehicle collision took place when a southbound vehicle, driven by a 44-year-old woman from New Bothwell, crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a northbound vehicle operated by a 52-year-old man, also from New Bothwell.
