Amplifying Indigenous voices with A Day To Listen 2024

In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Golden West Radio is joining media outlets across Canada on Monday, September 30, for A Day to Listen 2024.

The day is an initiative led by the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF) where radio stations from coast to coast broadcast Indigenous voices, stories, and discussions, helping to raise awareness about the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.

RCMP search for suspect after reports of gunshots in Thompson Saturday evening

RCMP in Thompson are searching for a 21-year-old man following reports of gunshots at two separate locations. 

The first call came in around 7 p.m. on Saturday. Officers say they received a call of shots fired outside a home on Duke Place in Thompson, Man.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a bullet hole through a window. The lone occupant of the residence was not injured.

Witnesses let officers know they had seen a man running from the area, so police began a search for the suspect.

Marika Siewert wins Spiritual Artist of the Year at BreakOut West

Marika Siewert took home the Spiritual Artist of the Year award at the Western Canadian Music Awards during BreakOut West this past weekend in Saskatoon, Sask.

Following the win, Siewert shared her gratitude on Instagram: "Thank you BreakOut West for the recognition and to all the nominees in this category especially my partners in all the creative craziness these days 😂 @briandoerksen & @joyceoftheshiningrose who led the way for all of us ❤️. Anishinaabe elder uses online video to pass along love of language to children

Barbara Nolan, an Anishnaabe elder on a mission to promote her nation's language, says she loves to hear stories about how her work is influencing children.

Nolan launched a series of online videos last month to introduce the language — called Anishinaabemowin — to the very youngest members of the community.

Building on faith: Booth UC unveils expanded campus in downtown Winnipeg

Booth University College celebrated the grand opening of its new campus at 290 Vaughan Street on Saturday.

The celebration marked a significant step in its growth as a Christian post-secondary institution in Winnipeg. The event drew students, faculty, and community members to the downtown location. Among them were dignataries including Minister of Advanced Education and Training Renée Cable, Councillor Janice Lukes, and MP Terry Duguid.

Two cats rescued from early morning fire in Westwood

Two cats were rescued following a fire early Saturday in Westwood.

The fire broke out shortly after 1 a.m. in a bunglaow in the 0-100 block of Addison Crescent.

Flames and smoke were pouring out of the home when fire crews arrived. It was declared under control shortly after 2 a.m.

While completing a search of the home, fire crews rescued two cats. Animal Services was called to provide care for the animals.

No one else was in the home, and no injuries were reported.

It's believed the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction.

Peter G. Unrau, 98, of Winkler formerly of Morris, passed away Wednesday, September 25th at Boundary Trails Health Centre. He is survived by his wife Mary, 3 daughters 1 son, 2 sisters, 1 brother and their family. He was predeceased by 1 sister and 1 brother. 
The funeral service for Peter G. Unrau will be held Monday, September 30th 2pm at Kronsweide Sommerfeld Church with burial at Kronsweide Sommerfeld Church Cemetery. 

'More than just football': 48 college athletes give their lives to Christ

Most of a U.S. college football team recently decided to make the decision to follow Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. 

Shorter University, based in Rome, GA, is a private Baptist college. Just before the football season started, all 150 players attended the Sunday service at Life Church.

Pastor Jason Stockton shared the gospel message with the athletes and many of them stood up to accept God for the first time in their lives.
