CAIN sister becomes first-time mother

After an emergency c-section, Madison Cain Johnson is grateful to be holding her new baby and recovering. 

"Yesterday was so physically painful, so stressful, and yet so beautiful!" says Johnson on Instagram. "I’ll share my birth story later, but long story short, almost everything went wrong."

Johnson is one of three members and siblings of the Christian band CAIN. Her brother Logan had his first baby, a girl, this year and her sister Taylor is due with her first baby later this month. 

Amy Grant recovering following cycling collision

Amy Grant has postponed concerts and is now recovering at home following an accident while biking.

Late last week, Amy's team took to her social media to let fans know of the incident. The post says that Grant was riding a bike with a friend when she hit a pothole.

"Following a brief hospitalization where she was treated for her injuries, doctors have ordered additional recovery time at home for Amy, where she is now resting comfortably."

Christian agencies responding after Philippines hit with 7.0 earthquake

A 7.0 earthquake struck the Philippines’ most populous island of Luzon last Monday. More than 50 landslides killed at least five people and injured many more. Electricity has mostly been restored, but clean water remains a concern.

Bill Passons with AMG International says, “Some of the people that we do serve did have some damage to their houses, things like cracks in foundations. We are going to try to help some of our sponsor kids’ families with those things. But that was the extent of the damage that was done to any of the AMG ministries or the constituents that we serve.”

'Metal missionary' Michael Bloodgood dies after months-long health battle

Michael Bloodgood, a heavyweight in the world of Christian rock, has died according to reports from his band.

Michael died at 8:15 a.m. CDT on Friday, July 29, 2022, according to a Facebook post from his beloved band, Bloodgood.

"After a gallant fight that began with a severe hemorrhagic stroke in February 2022 he's gone home to be with our Heavenly Father," the band says.

Michael suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and subsequent brain bleed on February 21, while over 2,000 miles from his home. He was airlifted to hospital at that time and never fully recovered.

The day after Maverick City Music performed in a sold-out arena, they played a free concert for the most vulnerable people on the streets of L.A., sharing the gospel through song. 

The event Musiic Matters was put on by the ministry called L.A. Mission. 'Musiic' stands for Maintaining Universal Strategic Investments In Community (Musiic) and the mission's focus is to provide food and essential supplies to Skid Row residents.

Canada's bishops want Catholic Church to issue new statement on Doctrine of Discovery

Canada's bishops are working with the Vatican in the hope of issuing a new statement from the Catholic Church on the Doctrine of Discovery, the organizers of the papal visit said Wednesday.

Many Indigenous leaders and residential school survivors had hoped Pope Francis would renounce the policy, which stems from a series of edicts, known as papal bulls, dating back to the 15th century. Countries, including Canada, have used the doctrine to justify colonizing lands considered to be uninhabited, but were in fact home to Indigenous Peoples.

DC Talk reunites for TobyMac single

The DC Talk boys are back together after 22 years to sing collectively once more. 

"So I called two of my lifetime friends," says TobyMac on Instagram. "Guys I climbed a mountain with, a mountain called DC Talk."

After leaving DC Talk Michael Tait went on to become the lead singer of Newsboys, taking over for Peter Furler in 2009. Kevin Max, the other band member released indie rock music in 2020 during the pandemic. 

Pope Francis expresses 'shame and sorrow' for residential schools in Quebec speech

Pope Francis on Wednesday expressed shame and sorrow for the role Catholic institutions played in the “deplorable” residential school system, promising the church would help promote the Indigenous cultures the schools tried to erase.

Speaking at Quebec City’s historic Citadelle, Francis asked forgiveness for the harm done by the policies of assimilation carried out in the schools.
