Audit of several Quebec dioceses' records identifies 87 abusers in the church: report

An independent audit of more than 80 years of files involving nine Quebec Catholic dioceses found at least 87 abusers among church personnel, according to a summary of findings released Wednesday.

Retired Superior Court justice André Denis reviewed the files of 6,809 people employed between 1940 and 2021 and uncovered 87 employees who were the subjects of confirmed or well-founded sex abuse allegations involving minors or vulnerable adults.

Honouring fathers and families with large Mass service

The Archdiocese of Saint Boniface and Archdiocese of Winnipeg invites everyone to a special Mass to celebrate families.

To finish off the Year of the Family and to commemorate the World Meeting of Families, there will be a big event at the Saint Boniface Cathedral on Sunday, June 19. It will begin at 10:00 am with a Rosary, while the Mass will begin at 10:30 am.

The Mass will be conducted by the Archbishop of St. Boniface, Albert LeGatt, and the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, Monsignor Ward Jamieson.

Helping spread God's word across Canada in over 70 languages

The Canadian Bible Society is now able to share the Bible with many people across the country in people's 'heart language.'

Majd Alajji is the Regional Manager for the Prairies and Northwest Territories with the Canadian Bible Society (CBS). He works closely with diaspora churches, which are churches mainly filled with people from different cultures, countries, or backgrounds. CBS has access to Bibles translated into 71 different languages for people, churches, and ministries in Canada. 

Pregnancy deaths soar in Kenya

In 2021, Kenya saw the deaths of pregnant women increase by 300 per cent compared with 2020. Many of these pregnancies come from sexual assaults.

Bruce Allen with FMI says this mostly represents girls aged 10 to 19. “Sometimes, these young girls don’t even understand what’s happening to their bodies, in terms of menstruation. COVID-19 has played havoc with the lifestyles of Kenyans in recent years. A lot of families relied on school for their kids’ reproduction education.”

Former pastor Bruxy Cavey arrested on sexual assault charges

On Tuesday, May 31, 2022, Bruxy Cavey of Hamilton, Ont. was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault.

This happened after there was an investigation into reports of sexual assault brought to the attention of the Hamilton Police Service. 

According to the Hamilton Police report, Bruxy Cavey was the primary teaching pastor at The Meeting House Church at the time of the assault and was employed there from 1996 to 2021. The Meeting House Church has its headquarters in Oakville, with remote locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
