Oblates to open Rome archives for search of residential school records

A Catholic religious order that operated some residential schools in Canada says it will open its archives in Rome to researchers.

The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate has agreed to grant the Winnipeg-based National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation full access to records in the Italian city. 

“We want to make sure that the families, the survivors, the families of the children who didn’t come home have access to their history,” said Rev. Ken Thorson of the OMI Lacombe Canada based in Ottawa.

Most days during this grim winter, only a dozen visitors troop 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) north of town to see the famous Hill of Crosses, Kryžių kalnas.

Cars arrived recently with visitors braving the cold and then departed, but not before these visitors remembered the poignant origin of this monument with thoughts and prayers for the people of Ukraine.

Amanda Cook, also known as Amanda Falk, Amanda Lindsey Cook, and Falcon (2020), is releasing her new single 'While We Wait.' She grew up in Manitoba, Canada, but she currently resides in Los Angeles, California. 

Cook has an 11-song album on the way called State of the Union, being released in May 2022.

"Our youth pastor told us to do skits for the youth group. Even back then and up to today, it's us opening our Bible and our crazy brains going, that's how I would visualize that like, that's how I would see that happening," said Tommy Woodard.
