APAS vice-president hopes federal election sees balance between environmental and agriculture priorities

With a federal election on the horizon, agriculture organizations are taking a look at some of the actions they want to see for the future.

For the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan, they've been calling for changes to be put forward for the Carbon Tax, which has seen the consumer side recently come off.

Vice-President Chris Procyk says he hopes to see that continue to be a policy point for all federal parties in the upcoming election.

Voters reminded to register ahead of federal election with workers wanted

With the writ being dropped on the weekend and a federal election being called, workers are now preparing locations around the country for voting day. That's set to take place on April 28th, with a number of other early voting locations also being worked on.

Sask. retains spot as third-fastest growing in building permits in Statistics Canada data

Statistics Canada has released a new set of data which shows that Saskatchewan is continuing on its path forward for growing value in building permits, which had a 78.7 per cent increase from January 2024 compared to January 2025 (seasonally adjusted).

The figure would place Saskatchewan third among the provinces for year-over-year growth. Saskatchewan has kept that figure going over the last few months in what has been a consistent performance among the provinces for growth in the value of building permits. 

Southwest set to miss out on lunar eclipse with snow system arriving Friday morning

The moon will be undergoing an eclipse tomorrow morning, with the southwest perfectly positioned to see the cosmic event. Unfortunately, the current forecast from Environment Canada is showing that the area will be seeing heavy cloud cover during the time that's supposed to happen.

That's expected to be best seen in the early morning hours, though with the heavy cloud cover there's no good time to catch the event.

Province and SARM coordinating $12.6 million going towards rural road projects

The province is announcing some support for projects taking place in rural municipalities as part of a cooperative program with SARM. Their Rural Integrated Roads for Growth (RIRG) program will see $12.6 million coming from the province for a variety of road related projects, with $21.7 million coming from the rural municipalities.

The province is announcing some support for projects taking place in rural municipalities as part of a cooperative program with SARM. Their Rural Integrated Roads for Growth (RIRG) program will see $12.6 million coming from the province for a variety of road related projects, with $21.7 million coming from the rural municipalities.

One local project is the Bremen Grid Rock Grinding inside of the RM of Bayne No. 371 with a total cost of $1,275,000. With the RM providing $775,000 for the project and $500,000 provided by the Saskatchewan Government.
