SECPSD provides update on February cybersecurity breach

In an email to parents Monday afternoon, the South East Cornerstone Public School Division provided an update to the cybersecurity incident originally reported on February 8th of this year. The incident prompted a thorough review of the compromised systems and the data that was breached and also initiated the implementation of new security measures.  

Saskatchewan RCMP embrace drones for crime-fighting innovation

The Saskatchewan RCMP is aiming to expand the use of remotely piloted aircraft systems, or drones, in the province. With 29 front-line officers already trained as RPAS pilots, and having drones in 33 percent of the detachments already, they are aiming to have at least one drone and trained officer in every detachment by April of next year. 

Harvest progress update: Southeast Saskatchewan navigates challenging conditions

Producers in the southeastern part of Saskatchewan are forging ahead with the harvest season, having completed 20 per cent of the harvest process, according to the weekly crop report. Their progress has been momentarily halted by the recent arrival of rain but the southeast is ahead of the five-year average of 18 per cent. It is slightly behind the provincial mark of 21 per cent.

Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS), a collaborative unit comprising officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and municipal police forces, takes this notion seriously. CTSS officers have been conducting patrols and closely scrutinizing vehicles for maintenance issues that could compromise safety.

The most recent Consumer Price Index, or inflation, numbers were released Tuesday morning by Statistics Canada. The numbers for July show the rate of inflation is up for July compared to June, with prices across the country 3.3 percent higher than they were in July 2022.  

Here in Saskatchewan, the inflation rate was slightly behind the national mark, at 3 percent. This is the sixth lowest in the nation. It also marks just the 8th July since 2003 the rate of inflation in Saskatchewan was below the national mark.

The provincial Ministry of Agriculture released its weekly crop report Thursday morning as harvest kicks into full gear across much of the province. Here in the southeast, it was reported eight per cent of the crop is now in the bin, which is on par with the five-year average, and slightly below the provincial average of nine per cent.

Saskatchewan wages below national average in May

Statistics Canada released their payroll employment and earnings numbers Thursday morning, and Saskatchewan is sitting in the middle of the pack in many of the metrics. The average weekly earnings in the province in May were $1156.83, which was the 5th highest in the country, and below the national average of $1205.35. The earnings for May were down from April by nearly $10, the largest decline of any province.
