Volunteers needed for U18 Men's and Women's Provincial Curling Championships in Morden

Morden, Manitoba is set to host the Asham U18 Men’s and Women’s Provincial Curling Championships from January 1st to 5th, 2025. Ron Sugden, who is the Chair for this year’s event, shared insights into what makes the Asham U18 Championships a highlight on the provincial curling calendar.  

According to Sugden, the event will feature 10 men’s and 10 women’s teams, all competing for the top spot and the opportunity to represent Manitoba at the national level in Saskatoon.

Caring through canola: Morden-based SHARE farmers unite to help feed the world

A familiar sight in the Pembina Valley at this time of year is farmers working tirelessly to harvest crops that are an invaluable resource locally, across Canada, and beyond. It’s a big job. Yesterday, farmers took time out of their busiest season to gather in a canola field northwest of Morden for a special harvest — 250 acres of canola to be donated toward the fight against world hunger. 

'This isn't the end of my journey': Chris Streveler has 3 torn ligaments

Chris Streveler announced that his 2024 season is over after suffering a major knee injury during last weekend's Banjo Bowl.

In an emotional Instagram post, Streveler revealed that he tore three of the four major ligaments in his knee, marking the first time in his career that he's stayed down on the field following an injury.

“I’ve been through a lot of adversity in this game, but through it all I’m reminded that you can only truly control three things—how you show up on a daily basis, how hard you work, and what type of attitude you have,” Streveler wrote.

A private family funeral service for Jacob Hiebert Wiebe will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with burial at Heritage Cemetery.

Mary Ann Wiebe, 87, of Winkler passed away Monday, September 9th at Boundary Trails Health Centre. She was predeceased by her parents Jacob R. and Agnes Wiebe. 
A memorial service for Mary Ann Wiebe will be held Sunday, September 15th at 3pm at Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church, with burial prior to the service at Winkler Cemetery.

The Board of Directors of the Golf Manitoba Scholarship Fund has announced that Keira Krahn of Carman is the 2024 recipient of the Dr. Dwight Parkinson Award. The $2,000 award is available to a student entering their first year of studies at a post-secondary institution. Krahn graduated from Carman Collegiate with Honours and Distinction and is set to begin her freshman year in Kinesiology at the University of Manitoba.
